AI & Smart-glasses : The future of human machine interaction
In case you haven’t seen this demo from CES 2024, see how Rabbit r1 took this year’s conference by storm.
I liked the demo and the promise of the Rabbit r1 device. But it won't work well for everyone in the long run. Why? Because it can't replace our mobile phones. Mobile phones are designed to give us a good feeling (dopamine), and while the rabbit r1 helps us get things done, people will still look for that dopamine hit on their phones. Carrying both the rabbit r1 and a phone is an extra hassle. Given its price, I feel the Rabbit r1 will be a great collection item and a cool gadget to play with.
What can be done for version 2 for this product & beyond? The rabbit r1 v2 could be a smart glass with a headphone. This kind of device has many advantages. Almost half of the world needs eyesight correction, and 60% of those who have this need wear glasses. Combining smart glasses with a powerful AI device, a built-in camera, and earphones would be really useful. It could solve multiple problems at once. The market potential for this kind of device is enormous. It's not competing with what's already out there but adding to something incredibly useful. Thinking a bit into the future, rabbit smart glasses could enable other use cases for AR/VR and create a new platform for smart devices like Appstore for smartphones in 2008.
In that way, I am bullish on Meta with their open-source AI and hardware strategy. Meta has a smart AI strategy, covering different aspects like making special computer chips (Meta Training and Inference Accelerator) for better AI performance. They're upgrading their data centres to be great at handling AI tasks. Here is a recent update from Mark Zuckerberg on this.

Meta teamed up with EssilorLuxottica to create cool smart glasses called Ray-Ban Meta that use Meta's advanced AI for hands-free help. These glasses can understand language, recognise objects, and even translate languages. Meta's plan involves improving the tech inside and what AI can do, making them a strong player in the AI race. With Zuck leading, I am bullish on Meta’s AI + H/W strategy and believe they could be one of the long-term winners in this space.
